Our mission

To provide a safe and supportive environment for teaching and training aspiring open water-minded swimmers of all ages with the desire to experience the joys and adventures of ocean swimming, recreationally and competitively, and learn and swim with some of the world’s best.

OWSA has designed programs to meet all levels of experience. Our curriculum is based on the best practices of open water coaching, techniques and training methods geared specifically to your needs and goals.

Our system will take you where you want to go…from getting in the Cove to explore the natural beauty of the Ecological Preserve, to competitive events, to marathon channel crossings.

All with the direct guidance and supervision of men, women, and children, who have done it and are doing it everyday.

Open Water Swim Academy

Imagine the open water, as far as you can see, full of possibilities and opportunities. Endless excellence.

Don your cap and goggles, dive in and you’re off…No walls, no flip turns, no counting laps!  It’s just you and the open water ahead.

You see schools of fish, colorful and shimmering in the sunlight. Kelp reaching up to the surface, swaying with the surge. Pelicans flying above, spotting…diving below, fishing. Seagulls screeching.

Now you feel your breathing…listen to the rhythm and flow, smooth stroke…you feel like you can swim forever.  And then, “squeal…click, click, squeak”, you hear. What is that?  You look up and just ahead suddenly you see one jump and glide up and in, then another, and another and another…dolphins!  Are they chasing fish or meandering slowly, relaxing, gliding…a majestic sight.

Imagine being able to do all this, in one of the most beautiful spots in the world, under the guidance and support from world class open water swimmers; instructors who will teach you and explore with you the wonders of open water swimming.

For this is where it all starts, both for the recreational as well as competitive swimmer.

The common, underlying desire and inspiration driven by the open water.
